GMA anchor reveals she has myelodysplastic syndrome

GMA anchor Robin Roberts announced Monday morning she has MDS, or myelodysplastic syndrome.

"Sometimes the treatment for cancer can cause other serious medical problems. Today, I want to let you know that I’ve been diagnosed with MDS or myelodysplastic syndrome. It's a disease of the blood and bone marrow and was once known as preleukemia," said Roberts, 51.

Monday she will be starting pre-treatment, chemotherapy.  She will eventually need a bone marrow transplant, with her own sister as the donor.

Roberts beat breast cancer five years ago.

Roberts says she will continue to anchor GMA during treatment and insists she will beat this, just like she beat breast cancer.
