School Administrators Hit Whistleblower With "Bullying" Complaints
Is it retaliation?
Whistleblower Complaint
Michael Marchetti has been exposing waste and corruption at the Broward County School Board for more than a decade -- but only recently was he honored for it.
At the beginning of October, the FBI gave Marchetti, a maintenance supervisor at the district, an award for his "outstanding assistance" in investigations.
Just days later, he was hit with three "bullying" complaints by higher-ups at the school board, including Deputy Superintendent Tom Lindner, the construction chief. The contents of the complaints haven't been made public, but Marchetti said that all he's done is ask for investigations involving the administrators.
Most recently, Marchetti called out Lindner for pushing a dubious $5 million maintenance building project that has been investigated by Local 10. The problem-riddled project has since been hit with a scathing audit report and is under state investigation.
Lindner refused to comment on the complaint.
UPDATED: If you got here this morning, congratulations. We're going through a slight redesign here that occasionally will have some quirks. Some big quirks. For instance, if you bookmarked the blog, you're probably now being sent to a dead page. That bookmark will be good again, but it's not there yet. So it's probably a good idea to bookmark the new page. You might also notice the blog is populated with old posts this morning. That's a temporary thing, since we'll be filling it up with new ones. All the old posts are still searchable on the Internet, just not included in the archive anymore. Photos are also a problem. The word snafu comes to mind. Sorry for the inconvenience and hopefully we'll be running fine soon.
