MIAMI -

Police are searching for a driver who struck a cyclist along North Miami Avenue and 148th Street in Miami on Tuesday and then left the scene.

The wife of 51-year old Patrick Johnson said he suffered several injuries, including several broken teeth, a large cut on one of his legs and cuts on his hands.

"He's in so much pain. They've medicated him, so he hasn't been able to talk to me too much," said Johnson's wife, Marcia.

Witnesses said a light-colored vehicle hit Johnson as he pedaled across the street. It then sped off, police said.

"Just really a horrible thing to do. I can't imagine the heart that person has," said Johnson's wife.

Police are now looking for a white or grey sedan or minivan with front-end damage.

Johnson was listed in critical condition Wednesday.
