Secret Santas pay off layaway bills
South Beach Athletic Club donates $500 to North Miami Beach Wal-Mart
The holiday spirit is spreading in Wal-Mart's layaway department.
For the second year in a row, PayOffLayaways.org paid off bills at a South Florida Wal-Mart, this time in North Miami Beach.
"It gives the people an opportunity to say and think, 'Wow, there's somebody out there that I can really help at this moment.' That's what this is really about," said RS Schmitt with the South Beach Athletic Club.
The South Beach Athletic Club donated $500, which pays the bill for about six families.
"Take care of as many families in the communities as possible because it's all about taking care of each other and that's what Christmas is all about," said Wal-Mart manager Joe Moinz.
Ulrick Neal had his layaway bill paid off.
"God bless those people," said Neal. "I cannot meet that person -- I would give him a kiss."
Neal bought a new computer for his wife.
"For something like that to happen, it's a gift from God so you be appreciative to it and you're grateful to that person," said Chyvone Washington.
"I wish I knew who it was so I could give them a hug and say, 'God bless you,'" said Lucrecia Walters.
Other shoppers stopping by the layaway counter noticed Neal's win and couldn't help but wish a Secret Santa might send them a gift too.
"For something like that to happen, it's a gift from God so you are just appreciative and you are grateful to that person," said Chyvone Washington, who was holding her three-month-old baby and pushing a cart of toys.
For those interesting in donating, the Wal-Mart in North Miami Beach has about $400,000 in layaway balances. Layaway payments are due by December 14th.
