MIAMI -

Convicted terrorism plotter Jose Padilla will have to wait until March to find out the length of his new prison sentence.

Miami U.S. District Judge Marcia Cooke this week granted a motion to put off the sentencing until March 4 after Padilla's lawyers and prosecutors agreed more time is needed. The hearing had been set for Jan. 29.

A federal appeals court ordered Cooke to impose a new sentence after concluding that his original 17-year sentence was too lenient. Padilla and two others were convicted in 2007 of conspiracy and terrorism support charges involving al-Qaida. Before that Padilla was without charge more than three years as an enemy combatant.

Padilla was initially accused of plotting to detonate a radioactive "dirty bomb" in the U.S. Those charges were dropped.
