MELBOURNE, Fla. (AP) — Two people charged with killing a Brevard County deputy will be tried separately.
A judge ruled Thursday that 19-year-old Andria Michelle Kerchner and 22-year-old Brandon Bradley will be charged separately on first-degree murder charges.
Florida Today (http://tinyurl.com/kfmkyyp) reports that attorneys for the defendants argued separate trials would avoid a media circus, while prosecutors said separate trials would waste taxpayer money.
Authorities say Kerchner and Bradley were fleeing a motel burglary March 6 when Deputy Barbara Pill stopped them last year. Authorities say Bradley shot the deputy multiple times when she ordered them out of the vehicle.
They were arrested a short time after the shooting, and they've been held without bond set ever since.
Prosecutors say they'll seek the death penalty for Bradley.
