Shooting leaves one dead in NW Miami-Dade

Body found in middle of street

MIAMI – Authorities say a man was shot to death along Northwest 96th Street and 5th Avenue early Wednesday morning.

The body of Reinaldo Solano was discovered in the middle of the street about 2 a.m.

"I heard a gunshot like 1:34 [a.m.]," said one woman. "I called 911."

Solano, 58, was coming home from work when he was shot, Miami-Dade police say.

"He said he don't think he's going to make it, he's going to die," said the woman. "Crime is bad all over so no neighborhood is safe."

"Very nice person," said Dawal Sheik, a store clerk who knew Solano.

Police found multiple bullet casings on the ground. Investigators believe robbery may have been the motive for the shooting.

"We are certainly not ruling out robbery as a motive based on evidence that we have on the scene," said Miami-Dade police detective Roy Rutland.

The shooter left in a dark-colored vehicle heading eastbound on Northwest 96th Street.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Crimestoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
