POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A Broward Sheriff's Office sergeant was remembered Wednesday, four years after he was gunned down at a Pompano Beach Walgreens store.
No arrests have been made in the shooting death of Sgt. Chris Reyka, who was killed while checking out a vehicle suspiciously parked at the store. Police said he never had a chance to pull his weapon to defend himself.

Broward County Sheriff Al Lamberti and 20 of the men and women with whom Reyka worked gathered in the parking lot Wednesday to honor his memory.
A new detective recently took over investigation of the Reyka case, and his investigation has taken things in a new direction.
"He is passionate about what he does, leaves no stone unturned and basically is a bulldog," Lamberti said.
"I've always used the motto, 'Effort without success is still failure,' and I don't plan to fail," said Detective John Curcio.
While Curcio has not discounted the prevailing theory that a gang of armed robbers killed Reyka when he interrupted their next attempt, Curcio has come up with a different theory.
"We're looking into the possibility that he may have saw Sgt. Reyka patrolling the major thoroughfare, pulled in off that roadway into the parking lot to hide from Sgt. Reyka's patrol vehicle," Curcio said.
The sheriff seemed to indicate that police may know who is responsible for Reyka's death, but they want to make sure they have an airtight case to present to the state attorney's office before making an arrest.
A $267,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
