More than half of all cell phone users own smart phones.  Last year, over 95 million were sold in the U.S.  
More phones in more places often means, more breakage. 

That's kept smart phone fixers busy and additional fix-it shops are popping up to service the growing demand.
Pam Thompson's husband's iPhone hasn't been right since it fell into the pool.  So she brought it to U-break-I-fix in Pembroke Pines, near her house.
”They warranty their work.”  Thompson said, “It's convenient, it's quick, it's a great place to come.”
Independent fix-it shops are popping up all over.  No appointment needed, and almost no waiting.
“I know most of us can't be without our phones, it's like losing a limb to most of us so, most repairs take 15 to 20 minutes,”  said U-Break-I-fix Manager Adam Escobar.
Cracked screens and water damage makes up the bulk of the repair work.

”Getting out of their car, a lot of people have it in their lap, soon as they get out it drops on the ground,”  says Escobar.
Technicians say you can prevent some of that damage with a case. 

You can spend  $20 for a cheap slide-on case or $50-60 for a better one. 

Any case is better than no case they say.
The question then is fix or replace.  Technicians tell us if a new phone will cost you $400, don't spend more than $200 to fix your old one.
