MIAMI – The fate of American Airlines has been up in the air for more than a year, but as of Thursday morning, sources say the company's future is all but decided.
The announcement of a merger between American Airlines and US Airways could come as early as Tuesday, February 12th.

"The economics make so much sense, they're so compelling, I think the creditors and the boards said 'let's just get this done because it will benefit everyone,'" said Mark Drusch, a former Delta Executive.

Officially, American Airlines has not confirmed the merger talks.
They've been tight lipped throughout its bankruptcy process, revealing only a new fleet that is coming in bit by bit.
Sources close to the company tell ABC that there is a board meeting scheduled on Monday, February 11th.
If the airlines merge, the giant company will keep the American Airlines name, but probably lose its CEO Tom Horton.
US Airways' CEO Doug Parker will likely take over.
A merger would not only pull American Airlines out of bankruptcy, it would also make history and turn the company into the largest airline in the world.
