SUNRISE, Fla. -

A 5-year-old girl ran to her neighbor's apartment in Sunrise on Sunday to let them know that her father had just shot her mother and grandmother. Now Miami's top DJ has now been dragged into the spotlight after the murder-suicide.

When police arrived at the apartment complex at 4004 Del Rio Way, they found three people had been shot. According to investigators, Marcus Trotman shot his wife, Danielle, 30, and her mother, Linda Scudera before turning the gun on himself.

Watch:

Sources told Local 10 that Trotman had been staying with a friend, Lazaro Mendez, also known as DJ Laz. They say he used a semi-automatic small caliber pistol that belongs to DJ Laz.

Trotman was an audio engineer for DJ Laz who had been staying at the artist's home due to marital problems, Local 10's Bob Norman reported in his blog.

Neighbors reported hearing several shots coming from the townhome about 7 p.m., then seeing the child run screaming from the home.

Dennis Scudera, Danielle's father, spoke to Local 10 from North Carolina, describing what happened.

"(The child) was upstairs. She ran out to the lady next door. She said that, 'Daddy just shot Grandma and Mommy,'" Scudera said.

"She had asked for a divorce, and that's when all hell broke loose," the neighbor said.

Dennis Scudera said his daughter married Trotman a little over a year ago, but things recently soured and his daughter asked for a divorce, which Trotman refused.

"He started arguing with Danielle, and Linda came downstairs and she called the cops, and he shot her in the head and then chased Danielle, and then shot her three times and killed her," Dennis Scudera said. "Then, he killed himself."

Court records show Trotman had just pleaded no contest to charges of battery involving his wife Danielle.

There were no records involving his mother-in-law Linda.

Linda's husband spoke to Local 10 by phone and said police told him, "Marcus came to the house yesterday. He started arguing with Danielle, and Linda came down stairs. She called the cops and he shot her in the head. Then he chased Danielle, and shot her 3 times, killed her. Then he killed himself."

For Dennis Scudera, the deaths are another tragedy. He was working at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001 and lost many friends. Three years later, his 20-year-old son, Anthony, was driving on Interstate 75 when he blew a tire and his vehicle rolled over, ejecting and killing him.

Marcus Trotman was arrested in August in Broward County and convicted of battery after being accused of beating his wife with a cellphone and choking her. Police said she had 15 stitches in the head. He was sentenced to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, an anger management program, no alcohol, no contact with the victim and no intoxicants.

Mendez couldn't be reached for comment at his Miramar home but sources told Local 10 he is cooperating with police.

His spokesperson would only say that he is "grieving."
