South Florida families walk to fight cancer

"I Care, I Cure, I Run 5K & Family Fun Day" held Sunday

SUNRISE, Fla. – The I Care I Cure Childhood Cancer Foundation held its 6th Annual "I Care, I Cure, I Run 5K & Family Fun Day" on Sunday morning.

The event took place at the BB&T Center in Sunrise and began with a 5K for children and adults at 7:30 a.m. The race was followed by an expanded Family Fun Day with activities for kids, free food and entertainment.

The event was hosted by actress Bailee Madison, a resident of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. Madison is part of the Disney Channel's Emmy-award winning "Wizards of Waverly Place."

ICIC raises awareness and money for cutting-edge research for better cures for childhood cancer.

Last year's event attracted more than 2,200 participants and helped to fund $200,000 in research grants to find gentler cures for childhood cancer. ICIC has funded more than $845,000 of innovative research in addition to receiving matching funds of more than $600,000 toward research for better cures for childhood cancer.
