Monroe County was top-performing in South Florida

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -

How good is your child's school? The state of Florida listed its school districts by grade and rank on Monday.

On the Florida Department of Education website, the state touted that it is "considered a leader when it comes to measuring the success of our schools. These rankings are the next step in the Department of Education’s continuing effort to provide clear, transparent metrics to help parents of school-age children, educators, and taxpayers in Florida evaluate their school districts."

The state said the numerical ranking is based on each district’s total points derived from FCAT scores.

Monroe County is highest-ranked in South Florida. The state gave Monroe an A grade and ranked it eighth out of 67. Palm Beach County was next. It also earned an A Grade and ranked 16. Broward followed. It also received an A grade and ranked 26. Miami-Dade received a B grade and finished 37.

St. John's County in the Jacksonville area was number one overall. Madison County in the Ocala area ranked last.
