MIAMI -

Students and South Florida pro-immigrant activists are expressing outrage after Florida Atlantic University announced it will change the name of its football stadium to that of a private prison corporation accused of human rights violations.

Reports say that under agreement announced Tuesday, FAU will rename the stadium GEO Group Stadium. The deal included a $6 million donation to the university, which will be paid over 12 years.

GEO owns the Broward Transitional Center in Pompano Beach. The center, about 10 miles from the stadium, has recently been a center of controversy after people detained there complained about not getting proper care.

In a press release, FAU President Mary Jane Saunder praised the company's philanthropic gesture. It is the largest donation the athletic department has received.
