Lawsuit Accuses Driver, Oil Company Of 'Reckless Behavior'

COCONUT GROVE, Fla. – An attorney representing the estate of a woman who was killed in a fiery tanker collision filed suit against the tanker driver and the oil company Monday.

Attorney Stuart Grossman announced the wrongful death suit filed in the death of 83-year-old Anita Epstein and her three companions.

Epstein, Gloria Halpern, 56, of Potomac, Md., her brother Alan Klein, 52, his wife Debbie Klein, 49, both of Cherry Hill, N.J., were all killed when the fuel tanker, hauling 9,000 gallons of fuel, collided with and flipped onto a car Feb. 12 on the Interstate 595 ramp to Florida's Turnpike.

The suit accuses driver Flavio Santisteban, 33, and his employer, Floval Oil Corporation, of "reckless behavior and numerous violations.

Santisteban, 33, of Hialeah had just filled his tanker at nearby Port Everglades. Traffic records show Santisteban received at least 10 traffic citations since 2002. The latest was a traffic stop for speeding Dec. 4.
