DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. -

A man who detectives say has admitted to committing more than 20 break-ins has been arrested.

Darrin Engel is accused of breaking into 23 homes in the Deer Creek neighborhood in Deerfield Beach since October.

Broward Sheriff's Office deputies said that after they found Engel, they recovered some of the stolen items inside his home. BSO said it found jewelry, silver and some family heirlooms.

Detectives said Engel also stole a Cartier bracelet and a Tiffany necklace, each worth about $10,000.

Alleged victims are now coming forward and claiming the items they said were taken.

"I'm sorry he had to do this. He invaded our house and our privacy and our belongings. I don't know why anybody would do that," said victim Jeanne Mier.

Detectives said they believe Engel has already sold most of the stolen goods to flea markets and pawn shops.
