Suspect's Son Helps Police In Probe Into Professor's Death

Son Says He Wants To Help Police 'Find Out Who Real Murderer Is'

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. ā€“ A man whose father and brother are accused of killing a college professor in his Plantation home helped in the investigation, a recorded interview with police revealed.

Shawn Tundidor met with police secretly after the killing of Joseph Morrissey, a Nova Southeastern University professor who was attacked in his home in April. Police said the killer held Morrissey's family hostage, drove them to an ATM to withdraw cash, killed Morrissey and set their house on fire.

Randy Tundidor Sr., Shawn's father, and Randy Tundidor Jr., his brother, have since been arrested and charged with Morrissey's death.

Shawn Tundidor contacted detectives after his brother was arrested in connection with the crime.

"I can't let (my brother) rot in jail for something he didn't do. I love my brother to death," Shawn Tundidor told police.

"I'm going to do everything I have to help you out so you can find out who the real murderer is," he said.

Tundidor wanted the meeting to be a secret, fearing the consequences if his father learned he was talking to police.

"Dead men can't talk, so whoever he thinks is talking is going to be on his list," Shawn Tundidor said.

In order to prove that his father was the mastermind, Shawn Tundidor agreed to wear a wire. On the resulting tape, Randy Tundidor Sr. discussed details of the ordeal, according to police.

"He made them drive to the bank to take out money," Randy Tundidor Sr. allegedly said. "Instead of doing what I said the whole time, he was all cracked up."

During his police interview Shawn Tundidor said his father killed Morrissey because the professor was about to evict his family from their rented townhome and gave them graphic details about the crime.

"The second stab, that the guy said, 'I think I'm dying,'" Shawn Tundidor said.

The moral dilemma of coming forward was not lost on Shawn Tundidor when detectives explained that by helping to provide justice to the Morrissey family, his testimony may very well send his own relatives to the death chamber.

"I don't want you to look at me like I'm a bad person. I'm snitching on my father, but this is something you don't do. You don't take nobody's life," Shawn Tundidor said.

Randy Tundidor Jr. and Randy Tundidor Sr. are both charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping, armed robbery and arson. The state is seeking the death penalty against them.
