A stretch of U.S. 1 is closed after a suspicious package was discovered Thursday.

The package was found in the roadway on U.S. 1 at Ponce De Leon Boulevard just before 11:15 a.m.

Police shut down traffic in the area and evacuated nearby buildings.

The Miami-Dade bomb squad arrived and detonated the package.

Coral Gables police said it was not dangerous.

The roadways were reopened at 2 p.m.
