TSA: Man brought loaded gun to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport
BSO arrested man for carrying a concealed weapon
Transportation Security Administration agents found a loaded gun in a man's carry-on luggage at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Friday, authorities said.
Broward Sheriff's Office said deputies arrested Leon Wendell Dancy, 51, of North Miami for carrying a concealed weapon.
Dancy's Smith and Wesson 9 mm gun was found loaded with 10 rounds at the Terminal Four checkpoint, the TSA said.
BSO said Dancy's gun was securely encased in a black zipper case.
Dancy had planned to board a Spirit Airlines flight to La Guardia Airport in New York.
According to officials, the incident is the twenty-third time a gun has been intercepted by officers at the airport this year.
"Please remember to thoroughly go through your bags before you arrive at the airport," said Sari Koshetz, a spokesperson for the TSA. "We partner with law enforcement, so realize that jail might become the destination you didn't want to go to!"
