Tampa to build shooting range for police training
Tampa planning $3.5 million shooting range for police training
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Officials in Tampa are planning to build a $3.5 million shooting range for police training.
The city recently issued an invitation to companies interested in designing and building the range and bids are due May 9. The Tampa Bay Times reports the facility would likely be built in an industrial area where noise wouldn't be a problem.
Officials hope to break ground by the end of the year, and it would take 18 months to two years to finish the project.
Last year, the city paid $265,000 for Tampa police officer to train at the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office range for training and qualification.
The facility would have two shooting ranges, a control tower, a classroom and a "shoot house" where officers can practice real-life situations.
