MELBOURNE, Fla. (AP) — A teen in central Florida is facing charges after a video posted online shows a trapped raccoon and opossum being killed.
Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said in a news release Monday that his agency received a number of telephone and social media tips from citizens over the actions posted on YouTube and Facebook. Investigators working with the state attorney's office arrested the 17-year-old suspect on charges of felony animal cruelty and discharge of a weapon in a residential area. The teen was being held at Brevard County Juvenile Detention Center.
Captain Bob Brown of Brevard County Animal Services told Florida Today (http://goo.gl/bCp1C ) that nuisance animals can be trapped and euthanized, but it's illegal to make animals suffer.
