Two teenagers were sentenced for manslaughter on Tuesday in the death of a teenage boy who investigators said was dragged to death in March 2011.
Kevin Burton died on March 7. Investigators said Burton was beaten and then run over by a car two days before he died, which caused brain swelling from which he could not recover.
Christian Tur and Dominic Rose were both charged in the case.
Tur apologized to Burton's family in court on Tuesday.
"I want you to know how sorry I am for everything that happened. I take full responsibility and accept the consequences for my behavior," said Tur.
Several of Burton's family members showed up to the sentencing.
"And, I hope as you enjoy those precious moments, eating your favorite food, sharing and making your memories with your family, you will remember Kevin, my nephew, the 16-year-old boy you murdered," said Yvonne Spears, Burton's aunt.
Tur was sentenced to 12 years in prison and 10 years probation for manslaughter. Rose was sentenced to three years in prison and three years probation.
