UN-Syria-Resolution

The United Nations General Assembly has passed a non-binding resolution condeming the Syrian government for its ongoing crackdown. Only 12, of the 166 countries taking part, voted against it, with 17 abstaining. The resolution is more of a symbolic gesture, but it does carry a strong message to the regime of President Bashar al Assad to stop attacking its own people.

Romney-Auto-Bailout

Hours after Detroit automaker General Motors reported the largest annual profit in its history, GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney said he was "delighted" the industry was profitable. But during a campaign appearance in Michigan today Romney made no mention of his opposition to the federal auto bailout.

Markets-Newyork

Stocks closed up more than 1% today as positive domestic economic data comforted investors nervous about Greece's ability to secure a second bailout. The Dow finished 123 points higher. The Nasdaq added 44 and the S&P 500 gained 15 points.

Whitney-Houston

Actor Kevin Costner, who starred with Whitney Houston in the 1992 hit movie "The Bodyguard," will speak at her funeral on Saturday. A source with knowledge of the funeral plans also says Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin, who is Houston's godmother, will perform at the service. The 48-year-old Houston died Saturday in Beverly Hills from unknown causes.

CNN-Poll-Contraception

A new national survey finds half of all Americans oppose the Obama administration's new policy on employer-provided health insurance plans and the mandated coverage of contraceptive services for female employees, including those at religiously affiliated institutions. The CNN/ORC International poll finds 50% disapprove of the policy while 44% support it.

Medical-School-Exam

The exam to apply for medical school will include new sections requiring a broader knowledge of psychology, sociology, and the social components of health starting in 2015. The changes are the first for the Medical College Admission Test, known as the MCAT, since 1991.
