Thieves drive truck into Verizon store

Robbers causes $40K worth of damage, steal 1 phone

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla.Authorities have released surveillance footage of crooks making a smashing entrance into a Verizon store.

It happened Saturday morning just before dawn at the Verizon store at 14744 Biscayne Boulevard in North Miami Beach.

Police said at least three people with a pickup truck tried to get into the store by pulling the doors off with a tow cable. The cable snapped, though.

Next, security cameras captured their truck smashing through the store's front windows and driving clear through.

Through the shattered glass, two men slipped in. Instead of simply grabbing and smashing their way in, the men went shopping. Investigators said footage shows the men calmly looking at several phones, even some accessories, before walking off. They only got away with one real cell phone, police said.

"Everything else they took was a dummy of a display phone," said officer Jason Ochoa. "Luckily, at that time of the morning, nobody got hurt."

Authorities said they caused $40,000 worth of damage to the store front.
