PLANTATION, Fla. -

Thieves have targeted the same South Florida landscaping business three times, leaving its owner $30,000 in the hole.

Cary Hanna, known as C.J. to his friends, and his crews have worked hard to build up C.J.'s Landscaping and Gardening Inc. in the past few years.

But, recently, some thieves cleaned out the company's trailers.

"(They stole) the weed eaters, the blowers, edgers, hedge trimmers," Hanna said. "This is where they came in here. I have a door on the side of my trailer. They just cut this bar, this thing swings right open. They got in through here and just took everything that I had."

After spending $10,000 to replace his equipment, Hanna was back in business, until thieves struck again, stealing all the equipment. Hanna again replaced his equipment and put in some steel bars on the trailer.

"I can't figure out why me," he said.

Then, the thieves came back for the third time in less than a year.

"Now, they cut their way in," Hanna said.

Now $30,000 in the hole, Hanna is on the brink of bankruptcy and bewildered over his bad luck.

"There's nothing I can really do except prepare myself for the next time," he said.

Police are not sure whether adults or underage thieves are to blame, but they do believe the thieves are working in teams and may be part of a gang.
