Trial date uncertain in Florida terror plot case
2 accused of planning to detonate bombs in New York
A trial date is still uncertain in the case of two Pakistani-born brothers accused in Florida of plotting to detonate explosives in New York City.
Defense lawyers must review classified evidence and get some FBI recordings translated from the Pashto language. A judge on Wednesday set a July 11 status hearing for 20-year-old Raees Alam Qazi and 30-year-old Sheheryar Qazi.
They are jailed on charges of conspiring to provide material support to terrorists and attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction.
Both have pleaded not guilty to charges that carry a potential life prison sentence.
Prosecutors say Raees Qazi sought to avenge deaths from U.S. drone attacks in Afghanistan. They say he researched bomb-making techniques and traveled to New York to scope out targets, but lacked money and materials.
