Truck hits sunbather on Hollywood beach

Victim transported with non life-threatening injuries

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – A City of Hollywood employee driving a pickup truck on the beach hit and injured a man laying on the sand, said police.

It happened about 2:40 p.m. Tuesday.

The employee, an Ocean Rescue supervisor, drove the truck onto the beach, entering north of the Dania Beach Pier where the beach access entrance is, said police. The driver was going toward the water and down a hill when the truck hit the man.

Police said the driver didn't feel the collision because the man rolled. Witnesses alerted him, and he stopped and rendered aid to the victim.

"Well, he was all cut up. That's all we know," said one woman.

Another witness said the victim was bleeding from his head.

"The lifeguards came down in their pickup trucks and then the police came in," said Kristine Litchfield.

Police said the driver of the truck was authorized to be on the beach.

The man in his 50s suffered non life-threatening injuries.
