Coral Gables police: Student found roommate dead in dorm room at Hecht Residential College

CORAL GABLES, Fla. ā€“ A University of Miami student found his freshman roommate dead inside their dorm room Thursday morning, Coral Gables police said.

The body was found in the Hecht Residential College.

Alpha Epsilon Pi, a fraternity at UM, posted the following statement on its Facebook page on Thursday:

"The brothers of Alpha Epsilon Pi are deeply saddened by the loss of our new member, Eitan Stern-Robbins.

He was a bright young mind with a glowing future. He will truly be missed.

On behalf of all of the brothers, we want to give our condolences to those whose lives he has touched."

Police say the roommate called 911 after making the discovery.

Police said the 18-year-old's death didn't appear suspicious. A senior administrator at the university said the student died from an epileptic seizure.

Stern-Robbins was from Massachusetts.

University President Donna Shalala issued a statement Thursday, saying: "The University community is saddened to learn of the sudden death of a freshman this morning on campus.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched in the University community.

University chaplains and counseling center staff are on-scene and available around the clock."
