Vehicle hits, injures 5 pedestrians
Boy, 2 adults transported following crash
A woman drove her car into a crowd of family and friends, injuring five people, including a 2-year-old boy.
The crash happened in the 500 block of Southwest 2nd Street in Pompano Beach about noon.
Broward Sheriff's Office spokesman Mike Jachles says the 23-year-old female driver drove into the crowd at the end of a road Wednesday after an ongoing dispute. Jachles says the driver "accelerated into the crowd" and struck at least five people.
"[I] saw my nephew and nieces get ran over. I can't even think straight," said Linda Ann Jones.
Jones said a relative driving a white Nissan hit a group of family and friends.
"She just ran over all of them. I am just looking as they are being catapulted," said Jones. "She tried to hit her own momma and sister, too. She didn't care who she hit."
A 2-year-old child was airlifted to the hospital as a precaution. Two adults were taken to the hospital, but authorities say none of the injuries were life threatening. The other injuries were minor.
The conditions of the pedestrians weren't immediately released.
The investigation is ongoing. The driver was taken into custody after fleeing the scene and is being questioned by authorities. Charges are pending.
