Vigil held for missing woman
Miramar woman missing for nearly 1 month
The family of a missing Miramar woman held a vigil Tuesday night to honor her memory and to keep the story of her disappearance in the public eye.
"It's very emotional to see so many people here. It shows what type of person my sister is, a person that people don't forget," said sister Nayiva Blanco.
Vilet Torrez has been missing for more than three weeks. Friends and family members said they don't know if she's still alive.
"I just hope wherever she is, she can feel this love we have for her," Blanco said.
Miramar police said they suspect foul play in Torrez' disappearance, and are calling her estranged husband, Cid Torrez, a person of interest.
Vilet Torrez' brother, Javier Blanco, said he was not surprised that police are focusing their attention on her husband. The couple separated three months ago, according to family.
"It's been a rocky relationship since they've been engaged. Since they've been married. My gut tells me that he was involved," Blanco said.
Cid Torrez was not at the vigil on Tuesday. Some neighbors said he has been staying at the couple's home in Miramar. Their children are staying with Vilet Torrez' family under court order.
So far, detectives have executed four search warrants on the house, the couples' two cars, and on Cid Torrez himself to collect DNA and fingerprints.
Vilet Torrez was last seen Friday, March 30th, when she went to dinner with a co-worker. Her husband took the children for the weekend.
Torrez did not show up at any appointments over the weekend, nor did she show up Sunday to pick up the children. Cid Torrez reported her missing on Monday, police said.
Her sister said the children frequently ask when she will come back.
"I just want her children to be happy. They need their mama," Blanco said.
Miramar police said they are continuing to search for Torrez and for clues into her disappearance.
