FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -

A wet night proved dangerous for one Fort Lauderdale police officer and the driver of another car who collided Sunday night.

The officer's squad car sustained passenger-side damage. The front end of the other car was crushed.

Police are investigating how the two cars collided at Broward Blvd and 7th Street but say weather may have been a factor.

There were reports of a rollover crash several blocks away in Fort Lauderdale. Officers blocked the eastbound lanes of Las Olas Boulevard until 10 p.m.

Pelting rain smacked down with a vengeance before sunset, slowing traffic in Miami Gardens and creating hazardous conditions in Hallandale Beach. Lightning brightened the Sunday night sky in Hollywood.
