Wildlife commission wants your photos of lionfish harvest for contest and T-shirt
Florida wildlife officials want your photos of the lionfish you catch for a contest — and you'll get a T-shirt.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says visitors and residents can be part of the "Lionfish Control Team" by posting photos of themselves with their lionfish catch on social media sites, using hash tag #FWCLionfish. In return, you'll get a "Lionfish Control Team" T-shirt.
Jessica McCawley is the director of the commission's Division of Marine Fisheries Management. She says the invasive lionfish are negatively impacting Florida's reefs and wildlife. She adds that this fish preys on native saltwater species and competes for food with other fish, such as grouper and snapper.
The contest began Thursday and ends April 30th, or when 150 T-shirts have been given out.
