A woman who told doctors and police she was suffering from complications from an abortion has been arrested and charged with the death of her own newborn son.
Three weeks after police say she delivered a healthy baby boy, Alexandria Sladon-Marler was booked into the Broward County Jail on Monday, charged with aggravated manslaughter and child neglect.
On August 10, court records show, Sladon-Marler, 33, showed up at Broward Medical Center and told hospital staffers that she was bleeding from complications from an abortion a few days earlier. But court records show doctors didn't believe her. They told police it appeared she had just given birth.
It allegedly happened in room number 118 at the Fort Lauderdale Beach Palace Hotel and Suites located at 3711 North Ocean Drive, where police said Sladon-Marler had been staying since June.
A housekeeper who works there told Local 10 last week that Sladon-Marler pleaded with her to come clean her room, which the housekeeper said was covered in blood.
"She come to me and said can you come clean my room today, I just had a surgery. I said uh-oh, she pregnant," the housekeeper said.
Police found the body of the baby boy in a pillow case which had been tossed into a dumpster at the motel.
Court records show an autopsy revealed the infant had air in his lungs, an indication he was born alive.
