A woman in her 50s drowned off the coast of Miami Beach on Sunday afternoon.

The woman was with her son and daughter-in-law when she waded into the shallow water in the 5600 block of Collins Avenue, witnesses told Local 10. Suddenly, they saw the woman floating face down in the water.

In Spanish, Lucila Luejmayer told Local 10's Sasha Andrade that the woman lifted her head and asked for help. Luejmayer and another swimmer then pulled the woman to shore.

Miami Beach Fire Rescue attempted CPR.

The woman was transported to Mount Sinai, where she was pronounced dead.

Miami Beach Ocean Rescue said the area is a private beach and isn't patrolled.
