Southbound lanes of Interstate 95 between Marina Mile Boulevard and Griffin Road were blocked by a wrong way crash early Wednesday morning.
Investigators say a head-on collision happened about 3:30 a.m.
Two cars were heavily damaged and one caught fire.
According to Florida Highway Patrol troopers, a Honda Accord was driving northbound in the southbound lanes.
Before the crash, several drivers made emergency calls to report what they were seeing. Those calls started coming in from the area near Hollywood Boulevard. It's unclear where the driver entered the expressway the wrong way.
The collision happened after the Accord passed Griffin Road, where it hit a PT Cruiser heading south. The PT Cruiser caught fire after impact.
Two people inside the PT Cruiser escaped and were rushed to the hospital. The driver of the Accord was also taken to the hospital. All three suffered serious injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
