Boynton Beach Police said Leandre was seen in the above surveillance picture at the McDonald's restaurant on South Federal Highway on New Year's Day.

Detectives said Leandre waited until the laptop owner walked outside to smoke a cigarette.

He then allegedly pounced. He lifted his shirt and struggled for several seconds to put the laptop in his shorts.

Leandre told police that friends called him on Wednesday and said they saw him on the news stealing the laptop.

Leandre then watched a later news broadcast and saw the video himself.

He is charged with grand theft.
