Man, 8-year-old girl shot in northwest Miami-Dade

Father, 32, shot in torso; daughter shot in head

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A man and his 8-year-old daughter were shot Sunday afternoon in northwest Miami-Dade County, police said.

The unidentified girl and her 32-year-old father were shot shortly after 5 p.m. outside a home on Northwest 25th Avenue.

Miami-Dade police said two people inside a black Ford -- either a Focus or Fusion -- pulled up to the location and started shooting.

The father was shot in the upper torso, and the girl was shot in the head.

Both victims were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where the girl was listed in critical condition. Police have not released their identities.

"It pains me to be here once again ... speaking about a small child, an innocent child, that has nothing to do with any criminal activity, has nothing to do with ongoing disputes, and took a bullet," Miami-Dade police Director Juan Perez said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. A $25,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.

"We need to bring justice to the family, justice to the child, justice to this community ... and put people behind bars, where they belong," Perez said.
