Alton Road flyover scheduled to reopen ahead of schedule

Bridge from EB MacArthur Causeway to NB Alton Road to reopen at midnight

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Authorities say the flyover bridge from eastbound MacArthur Causeway to northbound Alton Road is scheduled to reopen Tuesday evening by midnight -- approximately a day and a half ahead of schedule.

The Florida Department of Transportation and Bergeron Land Development team were able to accelerate the schedule of this bridge work from six months of primarily night-time activities to less than 30 days of work, road officials said.

The closure was completed in coordination with the City of Miami Beach staff, police department and elected officials, including Senator Gwen Margolis and Representative David Richardson.

The bridge work, which started on July 15, is part of the overall improvements along Alton Road from 5th Street to just north of 20 Street.

Officials said the project, which began on April 1, is scheduled to last through summer 2015 and has an estimated cost of $32 million.
