PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. - The Pembroke Pines Fire Department is investigating whether arson was the cause of a fire that caused an estimated $150,000 worth of property damage Thursday morning.
Investigators believe someone set a car on fire in a wooded area at the 20800 block of Pembroke Road. Crews were called to the scene about 2 a.m.
Al DiLiello of the Pembroke Pines Fire Department says the car was parked next to two motor homes that were used for storing auto parts and equipment.
Two security people were inside the motor homes at the time. Both were able to escape, and one of them told Local 10's Tamika Bickham that this is not the first time a fire has broken out in the area.
"This has happened twice before. Someone burned a car out here, though they went a little too far this time, and it caught stuff on fire," said Ed Taft.
By 6 a.m., most of the flames had been contained. Crews stayed on the scene monitoring hot spots for several hours.
No one was injured. Several security dogs on the property were rescued and relocated.
The Red Cross is offering assistance.
