Atlanta man dies while snorkeling off Key Largo

Man, 39, pronounced dead at Mariners Hospital

KEY LARGO, Fla. – A Georgia man died Sunday while snorkeling off Key Largo.

The 39-year-old Atlanta man was on a snorkeling trip on the Sundowner III at White Banks Reef just after 1 p.m. when he yelled for help, Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said.

Crew members jumped into the water and pulled him onto the boat, Herrin said.

The man was not breathing, so they began performing CPR on their way back to shore, Herrin said.

The man was taken to Mariners Hospital in Tavernier, where he was pronounced dead. His name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
