Baby critical after falling into pool

Child taken to Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital

MIRAMAR, Fla. – A 9-month-old boy remains in critical condition at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital after he was found floating in the family pool Thursday morning.

It was just after 8 a.m. when Jack Freeman ran to the aid of his neighbor.

"I ran from my house to their house," Freeman said. "They were out here screaming and hollering."

Miramar Police say they were called to the Panama Street home after a mother found her baby boy floating in their pool.

"The mom was home and said that she was in the restroom and heard the kids playing and when she stopped hearing them, she went to go look to see what was going," said Miramar police spokeswoman Tania Rues. "That's when she found the 9-month-old floating in the pool."

Police say it appears the baby's 2-year-old brother may have opened the back door, allowing him to crawl outside.

While the mother waited for fire rescue to arrive, neighbors kept the infant alive.

"He took the baby out the pool and put the baby on the table and was doing CPR on the baby. I came in and assisted him until the paramedics came," said Freeman. "Most certainly it did help. From the grace of God, God sent me down there."

Police say the incident remains under investigation.
