Woman initially said 3-month-old had bag over face, according to police

OCALA, Fla. – An Ocala mom arrested Tuesday in the death of her 3-month-old baby has bonded out of jail.

Police say Tyecka Evans, 28, admitted to leaving the baby home alone while she went to a club with her sister last Thursday.

When Evans returned home, the baby was found not breathing, police said.

The child was taken to Munroe Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead a short time later.

Evans originally said she had fallen asleep and woke up in the living room and discovered that her daughter had crawled over a pillow and had a plastic bag over her face, according to police.

Surveillance video, however, showed Evans' sister and her sister's boyfriend arriving at the apartment complex, and Evans running upstairs to the apartment then waving for her sister to come up, according to police.

When Evans was interviewed Tuesday, she said she had left her children at 1 a.m. to go to the club.

Evans faces manslaughter charges and was booked into Marion County Jail on a $30,000 bond.  She posted bond Tuesday night and was released.
