Bailiff accused of fixing traffic cases pleads no contest
Prosecutors drop charges against Juana Olga Durand
A Miami-Dade County court bailiff accused of using her position to fix traffic cases for kickbacks will serve no jail time after pleading no contest.
In return for her plea, prosecutors dropped all charges Juana Olga Durand faced except a county ethics ordinance.
Detectives say they caught Durand on surveillance video last year taking the cash in office envelopes from a man trying to get out of traffic citations. They say she then referred the cases to one particular lawyer and kept a fee.
Durand has since resigned her court job and paid $15,000 in restitution.
