Ben Carson in South Florida for book signings

Carson to visit Kendall, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton Thursday

MIAMI ā€“ Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson is in South Florida to promote his new book.

Carson's first stop Thursday was held at noon at Barnes & Noble at 12405 N. Kendall Drive. From there, the retired neurosurgeon headed to a Barnes & Noble at 2051 N. Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale for a book signing that was scheduled for 4 p.m.

Of the hundreds on line to get a book signed in Fort Lauderdale was Amy Carello, who said Carson saved her daughter Lauren when she was just a year old.

"When she was a year old she had decompression surgery in the back of her neck," Carello said. "And had she not had that surgery she would not be here today."

His final stop will be at a Boca Raton Costco at 17800 Congress Ave. at 6:30 p.m.

Carson's book, "A More Perfect Union," was released Oct. 6.

"I wrote this book to encourage every citizen to think about the Constitution and to help defend it from those who misinterpret and undermine it," Carson said. "In our age of political correctness, it's especially important to defend the Bill of Rights, which guarantees our freedom to speak, bear arms, practice our religion, and much more.

Recently, Carson faced questions about why he lacked information on Cuba U.S. immigration policy before his stop in South Florida where the issue is so important.

"I'm gaining knowledge on them but I don't, by any stretch of the imagination, confess to knowing everything," Carson said. "I don't know everything. That's the reason that you have advisers."

It's just the kind of answer Carson supporters count on and love.

"They all have to grow," one supporter said. "Whoever is going to get the presidency has to grow into the business. They have to get well rounded, whoever it is."
