A man accused of shooting his stepdaughter on her 21st birthday has been arrested.
Miami-Dade police said Bernex Lucas turned himself in Tuesday and was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Police said Lucas opened fire at his wife and stepdaughter at their Biscayne River Drive home during a domestic dispute last week. His wife avoided being shot, but his stepdaughter was wounded.
Family members said Lucas' wife filed for divorce one day prior, which may have prompted the dispute.
Police said Lucas got away in a pickup truck that was found abandoned later that night.
Lucas faces charges of attempted murder, battery and false imprisonment. He also faces child molestation charges stemming from when his stepdaughter was under the age of 12.
