Florida City residents trapped a long Burmese python in a barbeque grill and called authorities for help Thursday.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue's venom unit responded at Gateway Estates, 35250 SW 177 Ct.
"Residents trapped it," said Miami-Dade Fire Rescue spokesman Arnold Piedrahita Jr. on Twitter.
The snake is about 12 feet in length, and will be turned over to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Piedrahita said.
Jason Leon, of Palmetto Bay, killed the record holder -- about 18 feet, 8 inches long and 128 pounds. He cut off its head after it coiled around him May 11, 2013, in Florida City.
The Burmese python, an ambush predator, is an invasive species native to Southeast Asia. The constrictor threatens coyote populations in the Florida Everglades.
