Harvey Rothstein, the father of Ponzi schemer Scott Rothstein, was laid to rest Thursday at Star of David Memorial Gardens in North Lauderdale. He had a history of health problems and was 76.

Among those attending the service was Scott Rothstein's wife Kim, and Rothstein's criminal lawyer Marc Nurik. Rothstein himself of course wasn't in attendance as he serves a 50-year prison sentence for his massive fraud and continues to cooperate with the U.S. Attorney's Office in the ongoing investigation.

In a letter to the federal judge asking him to be lenient on their son, Harvey and Gay Rothstein (photographed above) wrote of how Scott Rothstein cared for his father: "When his Dad was hospitalized he spent time at his bedside, shaved him, combed his hair; took time from his busy schedule again, when his Dad had breast cancer, to go to doctors with him and, again, spend time at his bedside."

Harvey Rothstein, a retired salesman from New York, gave more than $100,000 in political contributions during his son's rise, but was not suspected of having been involved in the Ponzi scheme. He was said to be heartbroken by his son's crimes but supported him to the end.
