Boater arrested for BUI; Woman rushed to hospital after boat crash

Detectives: Alcohol may have played role in crash

MIAMI – Investigators believe alcohol may have played a role in a boating accident that injured a woman and resulted in a felony arrest.

It happened Saturday night near Sea Isle Marina and Yachting Center.

A 19 -foot jet boat was about 300 yards from shore when it crashed into a wood piling.

"There were nine people on the boat," said Lt. Ignatius Carroll. "One woman was injured in the crash. She was sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries."

That woman was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center.

Authorities arrested the driver of the boat on suspicion of boating under the influence.

The passengers, between the ages of 18 and 24, were tossed around the boat but not ejected.
