MIAMI – All charges have been dropped for a Broward County sheriff's bailiff accused of attacking a prostitute.
In March, Broward Sheriff's Office bailiff Kendrick Busby stood before a Miami-Dade County judge facing a potential life sentence behind bars.
Busby was charged with attempted felony murder in what was described as a knife attack on a prostitute. But that charge was dropped by special prosecutors in Palm Beach County this week.
Busby's attorney, Elias Hilal, strongly claimed Busby's innocence in an interview after the hearing. He predicted his client would be cleared.
The law firm told Local 10 News that the case was cleared due to discrepancies involving blood evidence and the identification of the vehicle. Another issue was the lack of cooperation of the alleged victim, whose name has not been released.
"This was just a contrived statement by a known prostitute and misstatements of law by the Miami-Dade Police Department," Hilal said.
His attorneys said Busby, who is now suspended without pay from the Broward Sheriff's Office, has started the process of trying to get back in the courtroom working as a bailiff.
The BSO has made no decision on whether to reinstate Busby to his old job.
