Sheriff-Elect Israel raiding FLPD for BSO hires

Broward Sheriff-Elect Scott Israel's administration is starting to take shape.

Yesterday there came the unsurprising announcement that Ron Gunzburger, the top political consultant on his campaign, has been tapped as general counsel at BSO. Gunzburger, the son of Broward Commissioner Sue Gunzburger, resigned from the Broward County Property Appraiser's Office to accept the job.

Now I've learned from a trusted source that Israel is putting two high-ranking officers at the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, where Israel used to work, on his command staff.

Those two officers are Asst. Police Chief Steve Kinsey, a 21-year veteran of the department, and 22-year-veteran Capt. Jack Dale, of the Criminal Investigation Division. Israel worked with both men at the agency and Dale contributed $250 to his election effort, according to election records.

Also being hired as his chief secretary is another former FLPD employee, Mary Jo Mastrodonato, who worked as Israel's secretary at the North Bay Village Police Department while he was chief and chipped in $100 to his campaign.
